Next Year’s Festival Set for June 21-22, 2014

SAN DIEGO — September 26, 2013 — The Torrey Pines Kiwanis Foundation (TPKF) has announced that the 27th Annual La Jolla Festival of the Arts (LJFA), held in June 2013, raised $60,000 that will be distributed to various charities supporting San Diegans with disabilities. The TPKF Board agreed to add another $40,000 from its endowment, which, combined with the Festival proceeds, will mark the largest annual distribution in its history.

“With the wonderful support of Kiwanis members and families, and our sponsors, artists, vendors, volunteers and attendees, we increased our proceeds year to year by 80 percent,” said TPK Foundation President Peter Ballantyne. “With these results, we’re thrilled to provide much needed funding to 32 organizations that support San Diegans with disabilities.”

Current festival executive director, Ted Peña, will stay on for the next three years, taking LJFA to its 30th anniversary. “Planning is already underway for next year’s event and we’re looking forward to seeing more visitors join us for a unique experience of art, entertainment and fun for the whole family,” said Peña. “This is not your typical street fair. The community loves the unique venue and ambiance of our event.” Peña also added that a recent survey of visitors showed 93 percent of attendees look forward to returning in 2014, and 60 percent of attendees purchased art – a strong sign that the economy is looking brighter for the art community.
