SAN DIEGO, Calif. (November 2016) -- After a successful relocation and renaming in 2016, the San Diego Festival of the Arts (www.sdfestivalofthearts.org) has announced it will be returning to Downtown San Diego's beautiful Waterfront Park June 10 and 11, 2017.
Last year, the festival previously known as the La Jolla Festival of the Arts made the leap to a new location and a switch to a new name, remaining committed to bringing outstanding established and emerging artists to the region, celebrating the best across multiple visual arts categories. "We were thrilled to see a 40% increase in attendance levels last year with the new location and received overwhelmingly positive feedback from artists and guests alike, so the decision was made to make Downtown San Diego the festival's permanent home," said Don Ludwig, chair of the 2017 San Diego Festival of the Arts.
Boasting interactive fountains, intimate gardens, harbor views and excellent access to public transit, Waterfront Park has emerged as a quintessential destination for residents and visitors alike. The 2016 San Diego Festival of the Arts was the first art event held at the park and provided an ideal showcase for a variety of media.
The 2017 San Diego Festival of the Arts will once again showcase stunning works of painting, sculpture, photography, glass, jewelry, ceramics, wood, fiber and mixed media from nearly 200 world renowned artists. In addition to art displays, guests will enjoy live music and entertainment both days, a craft beer and wine garden, a selection of outdoor games and bites from San Diego’s top restaurants.
Tickets start at $12 with proceeds benefitting adaptive sports programs for San Diegans with disabilities. To date, the festival has raised more than $2 million in support of more than 30 programs, through which more than 40,000 people with disabilities have participated. More than $90,000 is being dispersed to various organizations from 2016 proceeds alone, benefiting over 12,000 individual San Diegans.
